It will be better to take a taxi since you would have to take a colectivo to Playa and change to the Playa Tulum colectivos plus the free shuttle from the highway to xcaret. Are you familiar with a place called Salciccium near Puerto Aventuras? There will be taxis that think you are wanting a taxi because not as many single moms take colectivos with kids, but that is ok.
